Manhattan inspection radar — alerts for your block
Manhattan is the densest inspection zone in NYC. Hell's Kitchen averages 10 DOH inspections per week. Chelsea averages 4.4. Lower East Side, East Village, Midtown East — all 3-5 per week. If you operate a restaurant in Manhattan, Inspection Radar tells you when one of those inspections lands inside your saved radius.
Which Manhattan neighborhoods get inspected most often
Hell's Kitchen tops the recent NYC DOH inspection density data with ~10 inspections per week. Midtown East and Chelsea follow at ~4-5 per week. East Village, Lower East Side, Tribeca, West Village, Financial District, and the Upper East/West Sides all run 2-4 per week. The pattern correlates with restaurant density (more places means more inspections) and with complaint volume (high-foot-traffic areas generate more 311 calls). Inspection Radar matches against any inspection regardless of which neighborhood you save — but a 5-block radius in Hell's Kitchen will fire much more often than the same radius in the Financial District.
Block size matters in Manhattan
A NYC block is roughly 80 meters north-south and 225 meters east-west. The radar lets you set anywhere from 80m (1 block) to 1,200m (10 blocks) — but in Manhattan, even a tight 80m radius can pull in 5-10 restaurants depending on the corner. We recommend starting at 400m (5 blocks) for most Manhattan operators. You can always tighten if you're getting too many alerts.
What the radar does NOT do
It doesn't predict whether YOU specifically will be inspected. It doesn't know inspector routes. It doesn't pull from any non-public source. It only relays data from the NYC DOHMH public inspection feed, filtered to the distance from your saved address. The signal is statistical: if your neighbor was inspected, the probability another inspection lands in your area within the next week is significantly elevated. Treat it as a 'walk the line and check temps' nudge, not a 'lock the doors' alarm.
